Christ Ahnsahnghong and the fallacy of guilt by association
Many of the websites that speak negatively about Christ Ahnsahnghong and the World Mission Society Church of God use the same logic, that logic is “guilty by association.” Guilt by association is defined as an inductive informal fallacy, which is also known as a hasty generalization. Pretty much, if it quacks like a duck and walks like a duck, it’s a duck, and anything that comes from that same country, is also a duck! This fallacy is made as an appeal to emotion and is not based on facts.
Some examples of guilt by association are as follows:
- Peter is a criminal. Peter is from California. Therefore, all the people from California are criminals.
- Tom, John, Chris, and Will are all friends of Ray, and they are all corrupt politicians. Tammy is a friend of Ray. Therefore, Tammy is a corrupt politician.
2,000 years ago Jesus was a victim of this fallacy. When Jesus was crucified, He was crucified between two criminals. Although Jesus Himself was not a criminal, I am sure that those who did not know Jesus Christ automatically judged Him and thought of Him as being a criminal as a result of association.
This is the same thing people try to do with the World Mission Society Church of God and Christ Ahnsahnghong. They speak about the Unification Church and Sun Myung Moon, then they say that the World Mission Society Church of God and Christ Ahnsahnghong must be the same since it started in South Korea.
In reality, there are absolutely no similarities in the teachings of the World Mission Society Church of God and the Unification Church. The Unification Church teaches principles that do not come from the Bible, as per their official website:
“Sun Myung Moon studied the Bible and many other religious teachings in order to unravel these mysteries of life and human history.”
The World Mission Society Church of God and the teachings of Christ Ahnsahnghong come strictly from the Bible and nothing else. The Unification Church keeps Sunday service, Christmas and all other teachings that do not come from the Bible. The World Mission Society Church of God keeps the Passover and the Sabbath of the New Covenant just as Jesus taught 2,000 years ago.
So instead of judging by standards of association with other religious groups, why don’t you try to understand Christ like the disciples did 2,000 years ago?
How did the disciples recognize Jesus 2,000 years ago?
John 4:41-42 – “And because of his words many more became believers. They said to the woman, ‘We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the savior of the world.’”
2,000 years ago, the first thing people considered was His teachings. It was because of His teachings that the people believed He was the savior of the world. What was the second thing they considered?
John 1:44-45 – “Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida. Philip found Nathanael and told him, ‘We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote – Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.’”
The second thing the disciples considered was how Jesus fulfilled all the prophecies of the Old Testament. Then it was because of His teachings and the prophecies He fulfilled that the disciples were able to recognize Jesus Christ as the Savior.
In the same way, it is because of what He taught and the prophecies He fulfilled that I believe Christ Ahnsahnghong is the second coming of Christ – not because of what people say about Him or by how popular He is.
From my research, I can confidently say that there are no similarities between the Unification Church and the World Mission Society Church of God.

The World Mission Society Church of God is clearly different then the Unification Church. Any false claims, negative remarks, or opinions about the World Mission Society and its association with this church are uneducated remarks. They need to be educated. Clearly, those who do not believe in Christ Ahnsahnghong will criticize those that do.

This article was amazing. These days people will find any way to judge Christ AhnSahngHong and the World Mission Society Church of God established by the Second Coming Christ who was prophesied to restore Zion (The city of God’s appointed feasts Isaiah 33:20) who will be in ruins. Just because WMSCOG began in Korea some people automatically believe it is false because of the Unification church. The only way to recognize Christ and the true church is by the bible. When Christ taught, didn’t He use the scriptures (Luke 4:17-20)? When the disciples told the good news of Christ they also used the scriptures (Acts 8:30-35). If we consider ourselves disciples of Christ we cannot use anything but the scriptures in order to recognize Christ. Those who only looked at the scriptures for their faith and didn’t listen to the gossip and rumors of those non believers were able to recognize that Christ was the savior through what He fulfilled. It is the same in these days. There are numerous prophesies that our Father, Christ AhnSahngHong, has fulfilled. So let’s have faith only in the bible not in empty words from man.

This article is so true. The only way the disciples were able to know Christ, was thru His teachings. WMSCOG follows the same teachings Christ taught 2,000yrs ago which was His New Covenant (Matthew 5:17-19). So there’s no way the Unification Church is similar. Thru the teachings & prophesies of the bible we can find proof of(Christ Ahnsahnghong) the 2nd coming from S. Korea.

Thank you TTWMSCOG for writing this article. “Guilty By Association” is a mindset that not only plagues religions but organizations, nations or even a classification of people. Therefore, I definitely support highlighting this issue and bringing awareness to many people all over the world. In the case of World Mission Society Church of God, it seems that there have been many generalizations from various groups and individuals about the overall mindset and teachings of the church. After reading many comments and questions, it all boils down to one action really… go and check out the church for oneself. I invite many different people, colleagues even, to share in the valuable insight that is gained from attending and they all have voiced how wonderful the church is whether they agree or disagree with the teachings. I implore each individual that reads the articles about the church or people or even the prophecies themselves to really take into consideration that for a long time many of these here stated “truths” have not been revealed or even discussed until now. This alone should spark interest!! That the 2nd Coming Christ has to appear in this age (Heb9:28, Rev 22:12, ), that God must live among the people while we are on earth(Rev 21:3), even the fact that God must come as a Mother(Rev22:17, Rev 21:2-3,9-10, Gal 4:26-31, Gen. 1:26-27, Isa 66:13, Isa 49:15, Jer 44:25..etc), keeping the feast of God and even the reality to the Tree of Life i.e. all of which hasn’t even been discussed prior in full until the 21st century!! In conclusion, let us recognize that the WMSCOG is neither a bad church nor do they do harm to people nor should we aggregate their members, teachings and such with other organizations. Truly, take away the point at the end of the article:

It is not surprising that WMSCOG is compared to the Unification Church because it is human nature to associate or generalize things when they don’t know or understand . It is like saying that because ETA was found in the Basque Country all the people in there are terrorist. It does not make sense at all. It is time to stop thinking that way, because we know that generalization are not good. If you really believe in God and his word, you must come to the Church that has all the teachings directly from the Bible.

Wow, I’m surprised that the concept of Guilt by Association is actually being used to identify someone or something. Because it’s such an exaggerate concept that doesn’t make sense. I cannot say that just because church “A” is next to church “B”, it doesn’t make the church “A” to be same as the church “B”, nor can you I think like that. Likewise please don’t consider the Church of God the same as the all other churches, just because people say so or it physically looks the same. But please look into the teachings and the acts of the Church, if it is the truth or false according to the Bible.

Peter, you are right to be surprised and that the concept makes no sense.
Nobody I am aware of uses this argument as the prime argument. From what I know, the main problems are with the doctrine of the wmscog, a doctrine that seems to have surfaced after Ahn died. Having found problems with the doctrine, it then becomes quite natural to compare the similarities with the unification church.
In other words, for me and people like me, I do not have an issue per se with the similarities. I have issues with the doctrines.
I see that the WMSCOG claims Yahweh, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one single entity but that is contrary to what the bible shows. All the gospels tell about Jesus’ baptism and his transfiguration. The bible tells about the simultaneous and separate existence of Father Son and Holy Spirit right from the time of creation.
The WMSCOG points to one single verse Gen 1:26 and says it proves Mother but what about the other, more detailed story of creation of man and woman in chapter 2?

Because there are many false second coming Christs, people tend to think that every church that is from South Korea and believes in second coming Christ is false. However, how can the fake one exist if real one does not exist? If there are many false Christs in South Korea, don’t you think there is a very good chance that true Christ should be there as well? Christ Ahnsahnghong fulfilled all the prophecies of the Bible regarding second coming Christ such as fig tree lesson and king David’s prophecy from the time of his birth. How can we ignore this undeniable evidence?

The only thing I can see the WMSCOG guilty of, is that it keeps all the biblical teachings of God. No other church in this world can say nor do the same 100%. Truly this is the true church which is described according to the bible scriptures.

Through even simple studying anyone can clearly see the WMSCOG and the Unification Church are not the same. In the southern section of the US where I live there are so many false churches. But even they’re each false in their own way and can’t just be grouped together besides the fact they don’t teach from the bible. You can see that those who are trying just to generalize and group us together are only trying to discourage people from knowing the truth.

Reading this article I didn’t know the Unification Church practices Sunday worship, Christmas things that are not taught in the bible. So to compare the WMSCOG to the Unification Church clearly there is no understanding; saying this is guilt by association this is just a generalization with human thoughts. God says that clearly “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the lord.” (Isa 55:8) The reason i believe in Christ Ahnsahnghong is because he it showed very clearly through the Scriptures what we have to follow to receive eternal life which is through the Passover not Christmas (Jn 6:53, Mt 26:17-19,26-28). Also showed that the way to fully understand about Christ who is the Savior is through recognizing who he is through prophecy and what the scriptures said about Christ (Jn 24:44, Jn 5:39). Before Christ Ahnsahnghong came and showed everything through the scriptures no one knew the way to Eternal Life was through Passover! If there is any doubt about Christ Ahnsahnghong please ask those who believe and come to the WMSCOG and study about him. 2000 yrs ago would you have asked those who didn’t believe in Jesus?

Very true indeed. 2000 yrs ago they only had the Old Testament and studied greatly everything written in the scriptures that clearly testifies about Christ, but instead failed to recognize Christ… Today many “Christians” study the bible and just because they can see Christ Jesus’s name written in the scriptures, they think all we have to do is believe in Jesus and we will be saved. But what is Christ true testimony for his people?! MATTHEW 19:16-17 Just than a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
No one, absolutely no one’s been keeping the commands of God since 321AD. Up until 1948 the process of the unsealing of The Ark of the Covenant began… And at WMSCOG we all know why.

The reason why I joined the Church of God is because Church of God is the only church that follows all the teachings of the Bible. I hope people don’t confuse us with the unification church since their teachings come from different religions. If the Church of God’s teachings came from different religions, I would not have joined this Church. For this reason, the Church of God and the Unification Church are totally different.

The only way to understand about Second Coming Christ Ahnsahnghong, is to study at the World Mission Society Church of God that was established by Second Coming Christ. The bible testifies that only the root of David can reveal the mysteries of the bible. “But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, he has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals”” (Rev 5:3). The root of David in the bible is the second coming of Christ. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star” (Rev 22:16). The book of revelation was written after Jesus Christ ascended to heaven. Therefore, the book of revelation talks about second coming Christ. Then second coming Christ is to appear and when he does he will reveal all the mysteries of the bible. How will we recognize him? Just as Jesus Christ was recognized by his teachings and by all the prophecies he fulfilled in the Old Testament, we will be able to recognize Second Coming Christ by his teachings and by all the prophecies he fulfills in the bible. Please come and study at the World Mission Society Church of God and all your questions will be answered through the bible!

Many people say that Christ Ahnsahnghong and the World Mission Society Church of God is under the same branch as the Unification Church which also started in South Korea. They state that they are the same type of church solely on the basis that the WMSCOG began in South Korea. It is certain that they make this sort of conclusion without doing any research on Christ Ahnsahnghong and the church he established. I believe these claims are made because it is a simple method to label our truth as falsehood- just another church that appeared in Korea with some strange doctrine. However, if they were actually to study the prophecies in the bible, they would understand that we believe in Christ Ahnsahnghong based on the prophecies of the bible. And even the fact that the WMSCOG was established in South Korea and has now spread throughout the world is bible prophecy being fulfilled. We first need to study the prophecies of the bible that lead us to Christ, rather than making assumptions with lack of understanding. Once you study the prophecies, then you will be able to distinguish the true Christ for yourself and not associate him with other religious organizations that do not follow the teachings of God.

I do not believe that the Unification church and the WMSCOG are the same or even connected. In fact I do not know anyone who believes what you have claimed. So no need to worry about it.
This article just misrepresents what people say when they compare the two churches.
The two churches are completely independent and not related in any way. There are differences in their teachings.
What happens with most people is that we see the absurdity of the teachings of the WMSCOG. How the bible is misinterpreted and meanings derived. On this basis we conclude that the WMSCOG is a false church.
Looking around we see other false churches too. We then find that the Unification church is a much larger false church. Looking deeper, we find that
1. The Unification church claims to have been founded by second coming christ Mr. Moon. Years before the WMSCOG.
2. We find that they claim to have a Mother God too.
3. We find that they tell members not to look at the internet because it is evil.
4. They claim that salvation is only through their church.Do you find similarities?
Similar? Yes. Identical? No.

This article is really amazing and easily understood. when i first came to the World Mission Society Church Of God i had a good friend of mine who insisted i was part of the unification church solely based on the fact that, in his words, both our churches were of “Asian origin.” truth is obvious that this church is completely different. this is where Gods feast are kept and firmly believe (and testify) about the female image of God our mother the Holy city the New Jerusalem, the other churches do not. i hope one day he will understand as i have and come to our Father and Mother to recieve life
