Have You Ever Heard About the Female Image of God in the Bible?
In the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG) we believe the Bible testifies about the existence of the male image of God and the female image of God. The majority of people, especially Christians, do not know that in the Bible you can find evidence to this. You don’t have to go that far into the Bible, in the first chapter of Genesis you begin to see the plurality of God.
Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
When God creates mankind, God does not say, “Let there be man.” Instead, God says, “Let us make man, in our image.” Every other act of creation had been a singular act—a simple word was spoken and the act was carried out. Then why did God use the word “Us” to refer to Himself? This passage has been a mystery for those who study the Bible. However, the answer to this puzzle is a lot simpler than what you think.
The fact that two images (one male and one female) were made in the image of God, lets us understand that the image of God has to be both male and female. This is evidence to the fact that there exists the male image of God, which we call God the Father, and the female image of God; God the Mother.
The “Us” in Genesis Refers to the Holy Trinity
In regards to Genesis 1:26 and the usage of the word “us,” many in the Christian community believe this is about the Holy Trinity and not the female image of God. Christians believe that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit were the ones who said: “Let us make man in our image.” They believe that it was the Holy Trinity the one who made mankind in their image. However, there are several reasons why this belief is incorrect and not according to the testimonies of the Bible.
The Trinity Is Not Plural
Saying that the “Us,” in Genesis is referring to the Trinity comes from a lack of understanding about the Trinity. What does the word “Trinity” mean? It means that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one God. Trinity is the unity of three or in other words, that three are one.
God the Father and God the Son are the same one, God. In the Old Testament, God the Father Jehovah prophesied that He would come to the earth in the flesh. He would be born as child, specifically a son.
Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace … The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
In the time of Isaiah, God the Father said that in the future, a child, a son would be born with the title of Mighty God. Through this, God the Father Jehovah was letting us know that He would come in the role of the Son to this earth.
Jesus Christ is God the Father Jehovah who was born on this earth in the flesh.
Philippians 2:5-7 NLT You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though he was God … Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
Jesus Christ is God the Father who came to the earth as a human being in the role of a son. And there are many more verses in the Bible and prophecies to prove this.
Jesus Christ the Son is also the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26 But the Father sends the Advocate as my representative – that is, the Holy Spirit – he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
1 John 2:1 … But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous.
The Advocate – the Holy Spirit – is Jesus Christ.
Again, there are many more prophecies in the Bible that prove God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are one and the same God. Because they are one and the same, they are one. In other words, they are not plural and cannot be what the “us” in Genesis refers to. No matter what angle we look at it from, the “us” in Genesis is not the trinity. The “us” in Genesis refers to God the Father and God the Mother. That is why two images came out reflecting the image of god – male and female.
If The “Us” in Genesis Is the Trinity, Then Where Did the Female Image Come From?
In addition to the explanation above, if God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit were the “Us” in Genesis, there are still some questions to be answered. First, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are all male images of God. How do you explain the fact that a female was made in the image of God? Which one of the three is the female image from which Eve was made? This is a clear example of why the “Us” in Genesis is not about the Trinity.
Second, if God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit had made man in their image, then that would mean that three different images should have appeared? But, why were there only two made; male and female? If we try to interpret the “us” in Genesis by using the Holy Trinity, then several questions would remain unanswered.
Genesis 1:26 Is Clearly About God the Father and God the Mother
The fact that male and female were the result of God creating man after His own image, is enough evidence to understand that God has a male and female image. The male image of God we call, God the Father. The female image of God we call, God the Mother.
God the Father and God the Mother who said: “Let us make man in our image…” in Genesis, appear in the book of Revelation as the Spirit and the Bride.
Revelation 22:17 (NLT) The Spirit and the bride say, “Come.” Let anyone who hears this say, “Come.” Let anyone who is thirsty come. Let anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.
God the Father and God the Mother gave life to human beings in the history of Genesis. In the same way, the Bible prophesied that the Holy Spirit and the Bride, God the Father and God the Mother, would appear to give spiritual life to all mankind by providing the water of life.
